The weekend
Sep. 20th, 2009 07:22 pmIt turned out to be fairly busy again. Saturday morning was the usual trip up to the farm to get the share, which contained turnips and beets this week, among other things. After that I ran some chores, including dropping off the sewing machine for repair. There's a two week wait, so I think that something new for KWCS is definitely not in the picture.
After that, it was up to Willimantic to move the Simplefare kitchen supplies from Larry's garage to temporary housing in Carllein's basement.
kls_eloise took pity on me and came along to help move stuff, and while we were at it we counted out all of the supplies needed for this year, and took a rough inventory of the massive amounts of cleaning supplies that suddenly emerged. It wasn't how I planned to spend my Saturday afternoon, but it needed to be done and I'm glad that we took care of it now rather than later. Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to get the equipment from Carllein's house to the site, and back again after the event is over. Larry usually took care of that.... Saturday finished up with a late lunch and quality time with kls_eloise and C., and then food shopping and some more house chores before going to bed.
Today was more chores in the early AM, and then I met my sister, BIL, and niece for apple picking in Ellington. I bought way too many apples, and despite the fact that I made a version of Apple Moyse (from the Proper New Book of Cookery) as well processing two batches of apples through the dehydrator, I still have plenty left. I think it's time for caramel apples!
And since I got turnips in tthis week's farm share, I decided it was finally time to make Rape Armate (Armored Turnips). They weren't as bad as I feared, but I have to be honest and say that not even lots of cheese can make me love them. Accept them, yes, but love them, no.
I think the rest of the night will be spent in relaxation, and maybe putting down some thoughts about the February 2010 event I'm planning. More on that in another post.
