Fun at the Met
Jul. 13th, 2008 03:47 pmWent down to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with weekend with a small army of people: Mom, Aunt Maureen, Carllein,
kls_eloise and Dorigen, Emma, and Johanna. I was supposed to meet up with a former coworker, but she had a family emergency. However, I had a lot of fun hanging out with the folks from New Jersey: Sir Jan, Lady Rosamund, and their daughter, and Jan's sister Isabeau. I didn't really see much of Jane, Mary, Mom, or Aunt Maureen, as the big group split right after we arrived.
We took in the traveling exhibit of items from the V&A. It was small, but very nice. After that, we wandered into the Lehman Gallery and saw lots of lovely period objects, and had some fun discussions about various pieces of pottery, paintings and chairs. After that, the group split again, and I went upstairs to see some of the European paintings. A brief walk through part of the Egyptian wing, a visit to the Temple of Dendur, and quality time in the book section of the museum shop finished up the day before we caught a late afternoon train back to New Haven. Unfortunately, it was a local train that made a lot of stops, but we got back eventually. :)
I'd like the next museum trip I take to be either the Cloisters or the MFA. I haven't visited the Cloisters since I was in college, and I've never been to the MFA.
