Jan. 22nd, 2008

I was able to make some progress on the gathered kirtle last night, though not as much as I originally planned. What else is new?

After dinner and paying the bills, I started in on the eyelets on the bodice front. I marked them out, putting them 3/4” apart, instead of my usual 1” apart. I told myself that this would look better and help the bodice close better, and I still think that I was correct. However, after two hours of making eyelets, I was beginning to wonder. I did manage to get one side done, which was around 18 eyelets. Tonight I'll do the other side.

After working on the eyelets, I needed a break. I pulled out my Tudor and Stuart dollhouse book and went through it with an eye towards what I had seen at my local hobby/miniatures shop, the Time Machine. While I think that the Time Machine will be very useful for basic materials and tools, its focus on materials for Victorian and Edwardian dollhouses means that I will need to find other resources. I suspect that most of the merchants selling Tudor items will be located in the UK – there just isn’t as much interest in that time period in the US (except, perhaps, in the SCA).

I also looked very quickly at my brand new book, Letterwriting in Renaissance England (many thanks to

[personal profile] jdulac  for the recommendation!), which appears to be an excellent resource. I’m hoping to have more time tonight to really examine the book.
