Overall, it was a pretty good weekend.

On Friday night I went with my Aunt Maureen (aka my independent/arthouse cinema buddy) and saw Becoming Jane. i enjoyed it immensely, despite the fact the main plotline of the movie (romance) was a huge speculation based on a few lines penned by Jane Austen to her sister. I think that Anne Hathaway did an excellent job, and it's always good to see Maggie Smith, even in small roles.

Saturday started off cloudy but soon cleared up, and it turned out to be a perfect day to attend a renaissance faire (which, of course, we didn't). I ran some errands, which included a trip to Macy's for some stuff from the Clinique counter. I stumbled across a sale on dresses and realized that I should take the time to look for a dress for my cousin Beth's wedding at the beginning of October.

I found two dresses, both knee length and both sleeveless. Despite the fact that this is an evening wedding, I think that I can get away with a shorter dress. I brought both dresses to dinner at my Aunt's on Saturday night and modelled them for the multitude. They chose the black dress (simple, but with a nice basket weave detail on the front) over the green dress overlaid with a brown lace and trim (it sounds weird but looked very nice). The losing dress was returned on Sunday and now I just need to find some shoes (must be strappy, according to my sister, and painful ,according to me) and some sort of shawl or bolero jacket thingy.

Saturday and Sunday both involved cleaning various areas of the house but no reorganization. I want to do something with the sewing room, but I just don't know what yet. I also managed to completely finish the Elizabethan high-necked smocks. Oh, and I stumbled across some cotton duck  at Jo-Ann's in a beautiful design that could work well for Elizabethan painted wall hangings or pillows. [personal profile] kls_eloise, I'll want your opinion on it.

I've realized that I need to make something to wear at the Canterbury event, as I have no 14th century clothing in my wardrobe. I also need to revise the bodice pattern for Leandra's Italian and try that on her again. Once that is ready, I can construct her garment and have it done with plenty of time before Simplefare.
